God is Greater Than the Highs and Lows

The journey of life is so unpredictable. There are ups and downs and sometimes it can seem like the frequent lows outweigh the rare highs. It’s extremely easy to let this be your perception. In fact, it’s only natural for the human mind to conclude this.

You want to know why?

It’s because we live in a fundamentally fallen world. Sin has corrupted our lives. Cancer, starvation, disaster, car accidents, terminal illnesses, depression, suicide are all fruits of this awful three letter word called sin.

Before sin there was perfect bliss. Man and woman lived harmoniously with their Creator. When sin entered the world that’s when the lows started to creep in. There are still plenty of things in the World today we could consider “highs.” Such as family, children, creation, working towards a career, and of course the best of all, Jesus Christ. Knowing Jesus is the only way we could ever know “God is greater than the highs and lows.”

The Revelation of Knowing “God is greater than the Highs and Lows”

If you know who God is, then you know the vastness of His presence. Having the Holy Spirit reveal who God really is takes on a new light when you commit your life to Christ. The Lord wants to give you good gifts, and the Bible reveals to us that “every good gift comes from above.” Among the greatest of gifts is fellowship with Him. Namely, having the Holy Spirit minister to you in a personal way.

God loves to spend time with His children, in fact, Jesus says in the book of Revelation, “I knock at the door of man’s heart and if any man would open up to me I will come in and dine with Him” Rev. 3:20. That’s the greatest joy of either our own self or of God Himself, is to dine with His children.

Coming to this realization always brings me to the scripture that David would write, “Who are you (God) that you would be mindful of me.” Of all the mistakes I have made, and all the harm I have done to the purity of His grace I cannot imagine why God would love a person like me.

His Grace is Greater

Through history, and through our own experience, God is greater than the highs and lows, He always has been and always will be. God’s ever kind mercy and goodness has been shown towards all of mankind. We have examples of that all throughout scripture, but think also about even the fact that you have merely clicked on this blog to read about the greatness of our God shows the inevitable assumption of His greatness.

He loves us so much, His grace is the agent that empowers us to constantly know that God is greater than the highs and lows. His grace is the power source we operate in Him when we have forsaken our own thoughts to place our trust and faith in Him. At the moment we place our faith in Him He shows us His greatness in ways we never thought possible.

Think for a moment, God is so loving and great He allows us the opportunity to make our own choices. He is all-knowing and all-powerful, but He loves us enough to freely choose to follow Him or reject Him. He is pulling us closer to Him, His desire is for us, but He ultimately leaves it up to us.

Remind Yourself of a Time God was Greater in Your Life

Any time we get down or stuck in the lows we need to remember back to a time when God was greater than your circumstance. Even more powerful than that, think to His sacrifice for humanity. He sent His one and only son to die for you and me, and we don’t even deserve life itself.

In my personal life there were so many times that God came through in a place where I know it had to be him. Financially, emotionally, spiritually, and in so many ways God has been much greater that all of my highs and lows.

One time I remember specifically is actually here pretty recently. In April of 2021 my wife and I moved to a little town in North East Arkansas to Pastor a church. At the time we were living in a camper that we remodeled and going by faith that the Lord would provide for us financially. The church was offering a salary but with the crazy increase of inflation we weren’t gonna be able to make it very comfortably.

I had been praying for awhile about what we were gonna do, I was more than happy to get another job but I wanted to focus on the church as much as I could. After trying out a few odd jobs when we were kind of at our whits end the Lord put something in our paths that has been the greatest blessing. God has been so faithful. Many times in my life He has done this. I know that if you look over the course of your life you can confidentially see that God is greater than the highs and lows every. single. time.
